Stay

The Mud Hut

If it’s adventure you want and a memorable experience, stay right up the top of the mountain.

This is a truly unique place to spend the night, with the original fire place panoramic views of the Garvie mountains and Native forest below.

Originally built by the Chinese Gold Miners during the construction of the water race in the 1890’s and reconstructed in 1990, The Mud Hut is the only building of its type that may be stayed in overnight.

It’s  a rustic experience with yes – another outdoor bath (we love those baths!).

From here, it’s straight onto 2,000 hectares of nature’s playground – cycling or walking part of the second longest water race in NZ, hand restored by Tom with historic markers and a map to guide you. It’s a never-to-be forgotten experience!

All accommodation bookings include access to the Roaring Lion Walking & Biking Trail, for you to explore at your leisure
