What makes this so stunning is that it’s 1,000 metres up atop Welcome Rock station with absolutely magnificent panoramic views, schist rocks towering over you, giant tussocks, pristine Beechwood and complete and utter privacy.
There’s just you, a few deer, the odd Falcon and 2,000 hectares of Nature’s playground.
And to think it’s only 5 minutes from Garston or 45 minutes scenic drive from Queenstown. Bring your own bikes and if you want to catch a memorable sunset and sunrise then stay overnight at one of our huts or The Red Shed.
Trail conditions vary and weather conditions are changeable.
Distance: 27km (21kms hand built single track)
Duration: On average it takes about 3-5 hours to bike the trail. Allow a full day out to explore.
Altitude: Minimum 867 metres and maximum 1152 metres, with ana elevation gain of 543 metres.
Gradient: 3-5 degrees
Skill level: Bikers and Hikers require a medium level of fitness

WINTER: Riding is not permitted during winter. Walking to the Mud/Slate Huts can be arranged directly with us during winter.
THE TRAIL: The Trail is open for hikers & bikers from 1 October until 30 April.
RED SHED: Open & Available all year round, located near the homestead!
MUD HUT & SLATE HUT: Access these huts along the trail. Slate Hut is 2kms from trail head, Mud Hut is 10kms from trail head.
