27 km of single track loop trail, hand restored by Tom, a fourth generation farmer, and a gang of volunteers, using just hand tools; it took 2 years and 5500 hours to build. Mad but true!

We’ve teamed up with Heineken® 0.0 to turn Slate Hut into New Zealand’s most remote taproom, sitting 1,130 metres above sea level in the beautiful Slate Range. Slate Hut was hauled into position using two tractors and sits in a spot that enjoys more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the valley.
After a day hiking or biking the Welcome Rock Trail, put your feet up, soak in those magnificent high-country views and enjoy an ice-cold Heineken® 0.0 on tap. That’s right, a freshly poured beer, without the alcohol, right here in the mountains! It’s a true display of Heineken® 0.0’s commitment to making sure its zero-alcohol beer is available on tap, everywhere in New Zealand.
It’s the first time we’ve had a beer tap up at Slate Hut, and we’re pretty excited about it.
The Heineken® Hut is open from 7 November to 31 March, with complimentary Heineken® 0.0 available to anyone booking an overnight stay at Slate Hut.

WINTER: Riding is not permitted during winter. Walking to the Mud/Slate Huts can be arranged directly with us during winter.
THE TRAIL: The Trail is open for hikers & bikers from 1 October until 30 April.
RED SHED: Open & Available all year round, located near the homestead!
MUD HUT & SLATE HUT: Access these huts along the trail. Slate Hut is 2kms from trail head, Mud Hut is 10kms from trail head.
