We loved everything about our Welcome rock experience. We felt very lucky to have the opportunity to walk this trail and experience some of the history of the area. Loved the mud hut.
Really appreciate the effort put into preserving the history of this place, at the same time keeping the trail
in excellent condition for enjoyable riding.
It is such a special experience to stay in this slice of history. Beautiful hike in amongst the slate rock outcroppings with valley, mountain and river views. We had a cosy day and night keeping warm by the fire and soaking in the outdoor bath. Super lucky to wake to fresh snowfall, a magical morning. We loved learning about the history/life of the race men and the group of conservationists who works to restore a physical piece of their lives. A super unique experience. Thank you so much for sharing.
Highly recommend , such a cool, unique experience. We went in August and managed to stay warm all night with the fire going. The bath is a stand out, just make sure not to put too much wood in while you’re in the bath as the water gets a bit too hot when the fire is fully fledged. Nice easy walk up to the hut and the way Katie and Tom have kept the history alive is amazing. Coolest AirBnB experience yet.

Beautiful location, cozy hut, fun trail and accommodating staff. We had to reschedule our booking here 4 different times because of poor weather and the staff couldn’t have been more understanding. Having a hot bath overlooking the mountains was a nice touch. Definitely recommend!
If you looking for a nice hike in the high country with stunning views together with the privacy of your own little hut with fireplace and the feel of the true backcountry, this is the place! Well worth the money to stay here for the unique experience of being on your own and not the least be able to enjoy the bathtub underneath the stars. I am very thankful for the flexibility to add on a working-dog tour at the farm beforehand and get more of the story behind the land and hut.

We were very happy to meet both Tom and the dogs at the farm. Tom very generously shared both the farm and his story. Being interested to understand the farming of NZ we asked a lot of question and Tom happily answered and gave lots of in-depth info about the things that specifically interested us. This is a tour much more than only meeting and looking at the dog working. Having that said we were impressed by Pip’s work especially since she steered only 3 lambs knowing this is much harder then to work with a big herd. Highly recommend this tour if you are looking for an insight into farming with a very genuine guide.

Beautiful location. Loved the outdoor baths! Amazing views, farm animals wherever you look. It was the peaceful break we were after.

This a great stay off the beaten path but not hard to get to. A well maintained road and beautiful views surround the property! Great fishing 5 minutes away right from town that also includes great coffee from The Coffee Bomb and an amazing Honey store!

Just first class. What a great position to be in as the sun set through a wild sky. And the we woke to a clear sunny morning for a stroll around the tracks. Well done Tom and Katie. This was our second visit and we will return.
