If it’s adventure you want and a memorable experience, stay right up the top of the mountain.
Just under Welcome Rock sits the Slate Hut, our newest hut which offers shelter, an outdoor cooking area and bath at 1100 metres above Sea level.
Watch the sun setting over the Mataura Valley and Eyre Mountains with extraordinary views, under a towering natural schist rock formation in the shape of a Falcon.
It’s a rustic experience with yes – another outdoor bath (we love those baths!).
From here, it’s straight out onto 1,000 hectares of nature’s playground – cycling or walking part of the second longest water race in NZ, hand built by Tom with historic markers and a map to guide you. It’s a never-to-be forgotten experience!
