by Mike White
North & South’s magazines senior writer Mike White enjoyed being amongst this years Revenant for the second year running. The event would not be the same without him.
Mike White has been a journalist and photographer for over 20 years, having worked on New Zealand newspapers as a correspondent in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, and most recently as a senior writer for North & South magazine.
While writing a travel feature about Welcome Rock in 2018, he met Tom and Katie O’Brien and learnt of plans for the inaugural Revenant race.
So he returned to Garston to cover the race, and wrote a major story about it, Where Dreams Go To Die. He was so taken with the event and the competitors, he came back to cover the 2020 race, and wrote What it Takes To Beat The Revenant, New Zealand’s Toughest Race.
What makes the event truly special for Mike is the scenery… the guts of the athletes… and the remarkable camaraderie that has already led to him making special friendships with those involved. He’s already booked to come back for the 2021 Revenant.
Thank you for writing about Welcome Rock and the Revenant Mike and for being so involved in what we do.
